Charades anyone??

Could you assess these two creative pieces on the same basis or criteria??

In my latest seminar in developing creativity through the arts and sciences we looked at assessing creativity, ways to assess creative pieces, how well you actually can assess creativity and i think the conclusion i personally came to (and im sure a few others did to) is that there is NO full proof way of assessing creativity. My reasons for this is that something that could be creative to one person could seem like a doodle to another. A few questions were raised asking whether you could judge creativity on the amount of effort someone has put in..but again effort is always going to be subjective, therefore should we actually (if it is unavoidable to assess at all) assess the process rather then the product and can this always be done?

So while i was blogging to find other peoples views on the subject i came across one person who suggested that charades is actually a very creative game in which you only asses creativity through the process. Which i have never thought of before that a silent game where people can only use there kinestic creativity (throw in a bit of Gardner there) to create a product!!

So here are some interesting blogs i found this week when searching google for assessing creativity. The first one is talking about inventions and how we can judge which is the best when they all have different but useful qualities! Which is the same with any art! I then looked at this blog which is about when you are most creative which is pretty interesting and it gives helpful tips to bring out your creative side!! The third blog is for after your creativity has been assessed a study on whether creativity is actually important in the world of work and points out that employers always say they want creative people but is that just an ideal?? Now you cant read the whole article because you have to be a member of enews but it gives you a few ideas and also some research that you could look up for essays of whatever!! And finally i found this blog about a man called Stephen Davis who did his third year dissertation on creativity, which has helped me with lots of ideas for my own essay!

My creative side

The third seminar in this module forced all of us to bring out out creative sides and this is the product (hopefully there will be a picture here but im not sure if it will work!!)

After this seminar we were given some very interesting readings which i have chosen to focus on the idea of mental illness and creativity..i created a page for this because it was a bit long for a post so have a look!!

Just a quick one!

I would just like to write a very short and sweet post to say how much i LOVE psychology today blogs!! They are amazing and so interesting so if your having trouble finding anything have a look!!

The main site is psychologytoday.com and here is a very interesting interview from one of the bloggers with Piers Anthony who is a very creative writer! An especially interesting part is the notion of creative people being linked with mental illness! check it out!

A little bit more research

As my course and module continues i have been trying to blog as much as possible, whenever i have a spare moment hence why i am writing this at 1am because i cant sleep!! i Just stumbled across an interesting article and study by a group called primary colours about creativity helping to tackle diversity ..thought it was worth a mention. Now im not sure if  you could class this page as a blog however it came up in the blog section of google so thats my argument and im sticking to it!! This article interests me because when i used to think about creativity my mind would go straight to thinkng about arts and crafts but now through this module and extra research im starting to realise creativity is clearly so much more!!

After discovering this article/blog i decided to do a bit more research into the idea of creativty helping to tackle diversity. Along the way I found a blog by Ben Kepes called diversity blogs. He recently made a post which is all to do with technology, computers, t.v’s, video games etc and whether young children should be exposed to them or if they should stick to, what he calls ‘old creativity’ (arts, crafts and so on). Or maybe technology is forming a new state of creativity all together?? It is entitled Kids and Computers – If Google is Making us Stupid What is it Doing to Our Kids? It is very interesting to see other peoples responses to this blog as well… Ben Kepes seems to expect ‘a lashing’ from people reading the blog however he seems to be recieving support from most people! I would like to think i agree with him that good old tradional creativity is best, however i am one of those people who cant live without her technology, would i like it to be different? I think so. Will i ever change and say farewell to my gadgets? probably not!!

A bit of hypnosis!!

I had my second seminar today and found out a little bit more on how to do this blogging malarky!! so hopefully while doing some more research i will beable to create links within my posts rather then just at the side!! Today gave me some interesting thoughts and seeing other peoples blogs and hearing other peoples difficulties has given me a few ideas as to where to go next when blogging and researching.

We undertook a bit of self hypnosis today which was interesting to say the least.. i was a bit scepticle at first however when it got going I could feel myself feeling more and more relaxed. However im one of those people who cannot stand being out of control therefore i started to feel a little uncomfortable with my body listening to my subconscious rather then my conscious mind and feel that i couldnt fully commit to full relaxation.  You could say that if i had fully commited and lost control allowing my body to completely relax I would be stepping outside of my comfort zone. However this raises the point is it essential to step out of our comfort zone and become creative, to stop listening to my controlling conscious mind and just let myself be creative?? I will hope to research this more.

My First seminar!!

The first seminar in this  module (being developing young childrens creativity through the arts and sciences)was very interesting. It gave me an insight into discovering what is to come within these next 9 weeks. Going through the introduction and discovering why other people chose this module many interesting thoughts emerged! I have never thought about tests, exams and modern education ‘killing’ creativity however i am very intrigued to discover more on this topic! Another side of this module i feel will interest me is the creative side of science! The arts are known for being a creative subject however science to me at least seems quite the opposite!!

I enjoyed watching Ken Robinsons speech which was very entertaining and created many interesting points! When typing in blogs: creativity and education i have found that most people blogs focus on this speech! It has been enlightening to discover other peoples views on his speech and i have found that most people tend to agree with him!
